Lupon et al reported the ST2-SCD score for predicting sudden cardiac death (SCD) in an outpatient with heart failure. This can identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple institutions in Spain.
Patient selection: outpatient with heart failure
Outcome: sudden death within 5 years
Parameters:
(1) duration of heart failure
(2) left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in percent
(3) eGFR
(4) serum ST2 (interleukin-1 receptor-like 1) concentration in ng/mL
(5) age in years
(6) sex

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 6
• The higher the score the greater the risk of sudden death.
