Description

An obese male may show abnormal semen parameters. This may contribute to subfertility.


Causes of changes in the semen may include:

(1) reduced testosterone

(2) increased estrogen

(3) increased scrotal temperatures

(4) changes in LH and FSH

 

Changes in semen analysis:

(1) decreased total sperm count and concentration

(2) decreased motility

(3) abnormal sperm morphology

(4) increased DNA fragmentation index

 

The semen abnormalities and infertility may or may not improve after weight loss.
