Description

Aerosols can be caused by many activities in the laboratory. Aerosols need to be avoided to prevent spread of infectious agents and toxic chemicals.


 

Sources of aerosols in the laboratory:

(1) centrifugation

(2) suction, vacuum or other negative pressure device

(3) heating an inoculation loop

(4) hot water or heating bath

(5) use a blender or homogenizer

(6) grinding tissue

(7) animal cages

(8) excessive shaking

(9) high speed fan or blower
