Description

A feedback loop occurs when the output of an activity exerts an influence on the activity. When the activity is social interaction a social feedback loop can arise.

A positive feedback loop is one where the outcome increases the activity.

A negative feedback loop is one where the outcome decreases the activity.

Homeostasis occurs when positive and negative feedback act in concert to maintain the system within a given range.

In a social network positive feedback can result in more people talking/acting more about a topic.

If positive feedback in a social feedback loop is unregulated, then a mania, craze or an overheated system can occur.

If negative feedback in a social feedback loop is unregulated, then a panic or a stalled system can occur.
