Description

A male may have a snake bite to the scrotum.

Local manifestations may range from minimal to gangrene. There may be significant swelling of the scrotum.

Systemic manifestations depend on the type of toxin and may include neurotoxins, nephrotoxins, hemotoxins and cardiotoxins.

If neither local nor systemic manifestations appear then the snake bite may have been dry (without injection of venom).

Antivenom is usually administered.

Differential diagnosis:

(1) scrotal gangrene associated with snake bite elsewhere on the body
