Description

Janik et al reported the SLEEVE BLEED model for predicting hemorrhage after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from the Military Institute of Medicine in Warsaw, Poland.

Patient selection: laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy

Outcome: hemorrhagic complications (active bleeding, intra-abdominal hematoma)

Parameters:

(1) history of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)

(2) history of hypertension

(3) staple line reinforcement

(4) expertise in bariatric surgery
