Description

Touma et al reported an activity index for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) based on the SLEDAI-2K and the daily glucocorticoid dose. The authors are from the University of Toronto.

Patient selection: SLE treated only with corticosteroids

Parameters:

(1) SLEDAI-2K, from 0 to 105

(2) glucocorticoid (GC) dose in mg per day (presumably prednisone-equivalent)

score =

= (SLEDAI-2K) + (0.32 * (dose GC)) - (0.0031 * ((dose GC)^2))

The impact of glucocorticoids could be summarized in a simplified table.

GC Weighted Score

< 5

0

5 to 7.5

2

10

3

12.5 to 15

4

17.5 to 20

22.5 to 27.5

6

8

The percentage of patients responding to therapy at 6 months decreased as the total score increases (95% for a score >= 3; 79% for a score >= 7).
