Description

Klok et al attempted to simplify the revised Geneva score (see both the original and revised scores, above). The authors are from Leiden University, Geneva University Hospital, and the Universite de Bretagne Occidentale in Brest.

Parameters:

(1) age

(2) history of previous deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and/or pulmonary embolism (PE)

(3) recent history of surgery or fracture of a lower limb within the past month

(4) malignancy (solid or hematologic malignant condition)

(5) unilateral lower limb pain

(6) hemoptysis

(7) heart rate

(8) findings on examination of the lower extremities

• The use of 2 points for a heart rate >= 95 is mentioned on page 2132, second column.

= SUM(points for all 8 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 9

• The higher the score the greater the chances of a pulmonary embolus.
