Description

Lin et al validated the original Fournier Gangrene Severity Index (FGSI) for patients with Fournier gangrene. They identified a subset of the original parameters that can predict mortality. The authors are from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan.

Patient selection: Fournier gangrene

Parameters:

(1) serum potassium in mmol/L

(2) serum creatinine in mg/dL

(3) hematocrit in percent

Fournier's gangrene severity index score =

= SUM (values for parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 12

• A score > 2 has a sensitivity of 87% and specificity of 77% for mortality.
