Description

Devlin et al proposed a simplified version of the Finnegan Neonatal Abstinence Scoring Tool (FNAST). The authors are from the University of Louisville, Tufts Medical Center, University of Kentucky, The College on Problems of Drug Dependence (Philadelphia), University of Maryland, University of North Carolina, and Women and Infants Hospital (Providence).

The original FNAST has 21 items, while the simplified version 8.

Parameters:

(1) duration of sleep after feeding in hours

(2) tremors

(3) muscle tone

(4) body temperature in °C

(5) respiratory rate in breaths per minute

(6) sucking

(7) feeding

(8) regurgitation

Interpretation:

minimum score: 0

maximum score: 8

A score of 4 corresponds to FNAST score 8.

A score of 5 corresponds to FNAST score 12.

Performance:

The area under the ROC curve was 0.86.
