Senjo et al reported a simplification of the nutritional index CONUT for elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This can help to stratify patients based on prognosis. The authors are from multiple institutions in Japan.
Patient selection: elderly patient with acute myeloid leukemia, age >= 65 years
Simplification: removal of total lymphocyte count from score
Parameters:
(1) serum albumin in g/dL
(2) serum total cholesterol in mg/dL

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 9
• A score >= 3 is associated with high risk.
• This is most useful in patients rated favorable by the NCCN 2017 risk classification. It can help to distinguish 2 prognostic groups in intermediate risk by the NCCN risk classification.
Other adverse prognostic factors:
(1) age > 80 years
(2) response to therapy other than complete response
