Description

A patient with polycythemia rubra vera (PRV) may present with a number of signs and symptoms.


Signs and symptoms seen in patients with polycythemia rubra vera include:

(1) pruritus, especially after a hot shower

(2) headache

(3) paresthesia

(4) dizziness

(5) visual disturbance

(6) bleeding

(7) peptic ulcer disease (often with Helicobacter pylori)

(8) erythromelalgia (burning pain and erythema of hands, feet, ears, face or other sites)

(9) peripheral ischemia

(10) myocardial infarction

(11) atypical transient ischemic attacks

(12) arterial or venous thrombotic events

(13) splenomegaly
