Description

The Sjogren's International Collaborative Clinical Alliance (SICCA) developed an ocular staining score for patients with keratoconjunctivitis sicca.

Parameters measured for each eye:

(1) 1% lissamine green staining of medial conjunctiva (nasal interpalpebral bulbar conjunctiva) on slit lamp exam

(2) 1% lissamine green staining for lateral conjunctiva (temporal interpalpebral bulbar conjunctiva) on slit lamp exam

(3) fluorescein staining of the cornea to detect punctate epithelial erosions (PEE)

(4) confluent staining on fluorescein staining

(5) staining of the pupillary area of the cornea on fluorescein staining (central area 4 mm in diameter)

(6) filaments on fluorescein staining
