• contact with beef made from infected cattle?

• eaten food contaminated by cattle, including unpasteurized milk?

• contact with contaminated water?

• contact with infected ruminant animals?

• contact with a person with bloody diarrhea?

Does the patient have?

• abdominal cramps and discomfort?

• diarrhea which may or may not be bloody?

• hemorrhagic colitis?

• fever?

• hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) or thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP)?

Is a culture done to screen for E. coli O157 positive?
