Description

Surgical needles come in a variety of geometric shapes that are suited for the needs of tissue closure.


 

Basic shapes:

(1) straight

(2) J-shaped

(3) circular arc

(4) compound curve

(5) 1/2 curved (mixed straight with curved end, resembling a hockey stick)

Needles come in a range of sizes. Delicate operations (coronary arteries, ocular) use small needles while closure of thick fascia may involve large needels, with most in-between.
