Sexual Attraction for an Amputee (Acrotomophilia)

 

Synonym: amelotatism

 

Source: akron (extremity) + tomos (cut) + philia (love)

 

Clinical features:

(1) Sexual arousal caused by someone with an amputation. This may be as a description or with physical contact.

(2) The person may have preferences for the amputation - upper vs lower extremity, stump, etc.

(3) The person may have other sexual interests or exclusively attracted to amputees only.

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) apotemnophilia: a desire to have a normal limb amputated. Some but not all of these patients are reported to be motivated by acrotomophilia.
