Description

Chen et al reported findings associated with the severity of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) due to a Hantavirus infection. The authors are from Xi'an Jiaotong University, Fudan University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.


Patient selection: nonfebrile stage of hantavirus-associated hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome

Criteria for critical disease - severe disease with one or more of the following:

(1) refractory shock

(2) bleeding from vital organs

(3) oliguria > 5 days or anuria > 2 days

(4) serum urea > 42.84 mmol/L

(5) pulmonary edema and/or heart failure

(6) severe infection

(7) cerebral hemorrhage, edema and/or cerebral herniation
