Description

Sawada et al developed the Severity Index of Paraquat Poisoning (SIPP) to evaluate a patient with acute paraquat poisoning. The authors are from Kogoshima University in Kogoshima, Japan.

Parameters:

(1) serum paraquat concentration on admission in µg/mL (mg/L)

(2) time in hours from ingestion to start of intensive treatment (up to 192 hours)

SIPP =

= (time to treatment in hours) * (serum paraquat concentration on admission in µg/mL)

SIPP

Outcome

< 10

survival

10 - 49.9

respiratory failure

>= 50

circulatory failure

where:

• The decisions lines are defined as cutoff (10 or 50) divided by time to treatment = (10 / (hours)) or (50 / (hours)).

Limitations:

• The precise time of ingestion may not be known with certainty.

time of survival in hours =

= 10 ^ (4.14 - (1.25 * LOG10(SIPP)))
