Patient selection: athlete with turf toe
(1) injury to plantar structures
injury to plantar structures
complete tear, hallux flexion weakness
none to minimal
mild to moderate
restricted motion due to pain
instability of hallux MTP joint
symptomatic care, can return to play if tolerated
walking boot with or without crutches, rest for up to 2 weeks, may need taping
long-term immobilization or surgery, may need to recover up to 16 weeks, consider taping
