The amount of weight to lose by diet can be calculated using the current body weight and percent body fat.
Fat-free body weight should be used over lean body weight since lean body weight assumes a small amount of body fat.
Parameters:
(1) body weight in kilograms
(2) fat-free body mass or percent body fat
(3) target percent body fat for gender
percent body fat =
= ((body weight) - (fat-free body weight)) / (body weight) * 100%
The target percent body fat is never 0%. Both males and females require a minimum amount of fat to be healthy.
