The serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) to absolute lymphocyte count ratio can have prognostic significance in some tumors.
Background: The serum LDH may correlate with tumor burden. The absolute lymphocyte can reflect malnutrition and/or an impaired immune response.
Parameters:
(1) serum LDH in U/L
(2) absolute lymphocyte count in 10^9/L
LDH to lymphocyte ratio =
= (serum LDH) / (absolute lymphocyte count)
Interpretation:
• The cutoff for the ratio that identifies a high risk group varies with the tumor.
• A ratio > 400 is associated with poor survival in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
• A ratio >= 150 is associated with poor overall survival in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
• A ratio > 168.8 is associated with worse survival for a patient with primary CNS lymphoma.
