Description

Kayigil et al used criteria to select older males with erectile dysfunction for dorsal vein arterialization (penile revascularization). These criteria can identify men who are likely to benefit from the procedure. The authors are from Ankara Ataturk Teaching Hospital in Ankara, Turkey.


 

Inclusion criteria - all of the following:

(1) no response to oral therapy with a PDE5 inhibitor at adequate doses for at least 2 months

(2) age between 50 and 70 years

(3) IIEF score < 26

(4) willingness to have surgery

(5) regular, stable relationship with a partner

 

Exclusions - none of the following:

(1) psychiatric disorder

(2) neurologic disorder

(3) diabetes mellitus

(4) hyperlipidemia

(5) hypertension

(6) coronary artery disease or generalized atherosclerosis

(7) nicotine use

(8) alcohol abuse

(9) history of major trauma

(10) evidence of neurogenic ED

 

where:

• Neurogenic ED is indicated by a discoordination pattern on the corpus cavernosum electromyography (CC-EMG).
