Description

The sedation scoring system used by Yate et al in patients being ventilated in the intensive care unit uses different score designations while the sedative is being infused and after the infusion has been stopped.


 

Clinical Status during infusion

Score

patient asleep or awake but needing no more analgesia

A1

mildly restless, but answers "no" when asked if more analgesia is required

A2

mildly restless, answers "yes" when asked if more analgesia is required

A3

restless, difficult to ventilate or in obvious pain

A4

Score

asleep and unrousable

B1

asleep and rousable

B2

awake but drowsy

B3

wide awake and alert

B4
