Description

Greenbaum et al reported a screening tool to identify a person at risk for child sex trafficking. A person at risk may benefit from an appropriate. The authors are from Emory University and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta


Patient selection: inner city youth from 10-18 years of age with high-risk social or sexual behaviors or complaints (genital discharge, pelvic pain, request for STI testing, intoxication, suicide attempt, assault, etc)

 

Screening tool:

(1) history of broken bone, traumatic loss of consciousness, significant wound

(2) history of ever running away from home

(3) previous history of drug/alcohol use

(4) ever involved with law enforcement

(5) number of sexual partners > 5

(6) history of sexually transmitted disease

A score >= 2 had a sensitivity of 92%, specificity of 73% and negative predictive value of 97%
