A field emergency whole blood donor should be evaluated prior to the donation. A triage tool can help to identify the best donor if several are available.

(2) veins and body weight in kilograms (ease and safety of venipuncture)

(3) history of recent infection (number of days well)

(4) travel history in past 6 months

(5) life style (sex partner)

(6) serious medical condition

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 6

• maximum score: 19

• The lower the score the lower the risk.

 

Reasons to exclude:

(1) sex with sex worker or in exchange for drugs or money in the past 12 months

(2) unwell
