Manara et al screened patients for signs and symptoms associated with cerebellar tonsillar herniation. The authors are from University of Padua and OC San Bassiano in Italy.


Signs and symptoms associated with cerebellar tonsillar herniation may include:

(1) chronic or frequent headache, which may be located in the back of the head and/or which may be made worse by sneezing or coughing

(2) hearing loss or ear noises

(3) change in voice or hoarseness

(4) dizziness or problems with balance

(5) blurred or double vision

(6) difficulties in swallowing

(7) shortness of breath (dyspnea)

(8) sudden loss of leg strength

(9) neck stiffness
