Description

Snider et al developed a brief risk assessment for intimate partner violence that is based on 5 questions. This can help to identify a person at increased risk for severe injury or lethal assault. The authors are from St Michael's Hospial, University of Toronto, and the Johns Hopkins University.


Items:

(1) increase in frequency or severity of violence over the past 6 months (odds ratio 3.7)

(2) ever use or threaten to use a weapon (odds ratio 2.1)

(3) capable of killing (odds ratio 2.6)

(4) ever beaten while pregnant (odds ratio 2.2)

(5) violently and constantly jealous (odds ratio 3.0)

A score >= 3 had a sensitivity of 83% and specificity 56%.

The area under the ROC curve is 0.79.
