Description

Yang et al reported both a nomogram and a score for predicting remission of hypertension following therapy for a unilateral adrenal tumor causing primary aldosteronism. The authors are from Chongqing Medical University, Ludwig Maximilians Universitat Munchen, Hudson Institute of Medical Research, Monash University and University of Torino.

NBPS is an acronym for nomogram-based preoperative score.

Patient selection: unilateral primary aldosteronism

Parameters:

(1) preoperative aldosterone to renin ratio (ARR) in pg/mL per mIU/L

(2) duration of hypertension in years

(3) sex of the patient

(4) target organ damage (left ventricular hypertrophy, microalbuminuria)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 22

• A score >= 11.5 is associated with postoperative remission of hypertension.
