Description

Salomon et al developed a score for predicting seminal vesicle invasion in a patient with prostate cancer that is clinically localized. This can help decide between therapeutic alternatives and can aid with informed consent. The authors are from Henri Mondor and Saint-Louis Hospitals in France and Columbia University in New York City.

Parameters:

(1) number of needle biopsies positive for cancer out of 6 sextant biopsies

(2) Gleason score

(3) serum PSA in ng/mL

• The minimum number of positive needle core biopsies is 1 and the maximum is 6.
