Description

Rizzi et al developed a simple score for predicting embolic events in a patient iwht infective endcoarditis. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple institutions in Italy participating in the Italian Study of Endocarditis (Studio Endocarditi Italiano, SEI).

Patient selection: infective endocarditis

Parameters:

(1) pathogen

(2) diameter of vegetation in mm

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 2

• The higher the score the greater the risk of emboli.
