Description

Nyberg et al developed a score for evaluating the donor of a cadaver kidney prior to transplantation. These can help to identify a kidney of marginal quality. The authors are from the Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota.

Parameters:

(1) age of the donor in years

(2) history of hypertension in the donor

(3) creatinine clearance of the donor

(4) cause of donor's death

(5) number of HLA antigen mismatches with the recipients

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 39

• The higher the score the greater the risk of a suboptimal outcome following the transplant.
