Description

Ito et al reported a risk score for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stent placement. The authors are participants in the STENT (Strategic Transcatheter Evaluation of New Therapies) group from multiple hospitals in the United States.

Patient selection: percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with placement of a drug-eluting stent (DES)

Outcome: major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular event (MACCE) within 30 days

Parameters:

(1) cardiogenic shock

(2) acute congestive heart failure

(3) pre-procedural statin use

(4) hemoglobin in g.dL

(5) left main coronary artery disease

(6) left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery diseaes

(7) ostial lesion

(8) ACC/AHA type C lesion

(9) coronary artery thrombosis

total score =

= SUM(points for all 9 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: -2

• maximum score: 33

• The higher the score the greater the risk for a major adverse event.

Risk of a Major Adverse Event

-2 to 16

(0.07519 * ((score)^2)) + (0.6917 * (score)) + 1.43

26 to 33

(-0.07679 * ((score)^2)) + (7.835 * (score)) – 90.69
