Description

Gomes et al reported a score for identifying a patient at high-risk for carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteremia. This can help to identify a patient who requires careful selection of antibiotics. The authors are from multiple institutions in Brazil.

Parameters:

(1) previous infection (unclear if any infection or due to a Gram-negative bacteria)

(2) mechanical ventilation

(3) use of carbapenem

(4) length of hospital stay prior to episode of sepsis, in days

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 4

• A score <= 1 "excludes" (it would be better to say low risk for) carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative sepsis.

• A score >= 3 was used to identify high risk for carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative sepsis.

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.80.
