Description

Garcia et al reported a simple score for evaluating a patient with a non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome. This can help to identify a patient who will require a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedure. The authors are from the University of Miami.

Patient selection: non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome

Outcome: predicting the risk for CABG prior to angiography

Parameters:

(1) TIMI risk score (from 0 to 7)

(2) peripheral vascular disease

(3) congestive heart failure

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 10

• A score > 4 had the greatest accuracy (76%) for predicting CABG.
