Donders et al reported a score for evaluating a woman for aerobic vaginitis (AV). This is associated with an abnormality of vaginal flora that is distinct from bacterial vaginosis. The authors are from University Hospital Gasthuisberg, University of Leuven, Laboratory of Clinical Pathology Antwerp and Eurogenetics in Belgium.
Aerobic vaginitis is associated with a purulent vaginal discharge. Culture shows aerobic bacteria (E. coli, Group B streptococci, Staphylococcus aureus, other).
Parameters:
(1) background flora
(2) lactobacillary grade
(3) number of leukocytes
