Description

Baart et al developed a model for predicting a low hemoglobin concentration in a prospective donor. The authors are from Sanquin Blood Bank in Nijmegen and the University Center Utrecht in The Netherlands.


Parameters:

(1) gender

(2) hemoglobin at last previous visit in g/dL

(3) hemoglobin at the visit prior to the last previous

(4) deferral status and reason

(5) season of current donation attempt

(6) number of months since previous visit in months

(7) number of whole blood donations in the past 2 years

 

delta hemoglobin =

= (hemoglobin at last previous visit) - (hemoglobin at visit prior to last previous)

• The delta hemoglobin has gaps in its point assignment. In the implementation the points were assigned as: points = (delta) + 2.5

• Female and 2, 4, or 6 donations in the past 2 years is not assigned points. In the implementation assigned points between the ones shown.

Interpretation:

• minimum score: -3

• maximum score: 26
