A patient with sclerosing mediastinitis may present with a number of clinical signs and symptosm.
Most patients are young adults from 30 to 45 years of age.
Some patients may be relatively asymptomatic at presentation, especially if they present early in the course of the disease.
Clinical findings may include:
(1) fever
(2) unexplained weight loss
(3) chest pain
(4) dysphagia
(5) stridor
(6) dyspnea
(7) wheezing
(8) hemoptysis
(9) superior vena cava obstruction
Complications include:
(1) esophagobronchial fistula
(2) pulmonary hypertension
(3) pulmonary atelectasis
(4) postobstructive pneumonia
(5) pulmonary infarcts
Purpose: To identify clinical findings that may be manifestations of sclerosing mediastinitis.
