Description

Schizotypal Personality Disorder is classified under Cluster A in the DSM. Some of its features are viewed as attenuated traits within the schizophrenia spectrum.


Features of schizotypal personality disorder - persistent presence of:

(1) interpersonal deficits and discomfort, with excessive social anxiety

(2) cognitive distortion, with unusual perceptual experiences, odd beliefsand odd thinking

(3) eccentric or odd behavior and speech

(4) non-delusional ideas of reference

(5) paranoid ideation

(6) inappropriate or constricted affect

(7) lack of close friends or confidants other than close family

 

The diagnosis requires exclusion of a transient change in personality or a change due to disease or medications.
