Description

Sandifer Syndrome refers to the combination of gastroesophageal reflux with episodic cervical dystonia. The diagnosis may be delayed if the clinician is unaware of the diagnosis.


Clinical features:

(1) episodes of cervical dystonia resulting in torticollis

(2) gastroesophageal reflux

(3) exclusion of other conditions (seizure disorder, ocular torticollis, etc)

(4) can occur at any age

 

where:

• Some patients may have hiatal hernia.

 

The torticollis will usually disappear if the GERD can be controlled.
