Description

Certain behaviors are required when approaching a helicopter that is on the ground. Severe injury or death may occur if a helicopter is approached improperly or carelessly.


 

Who may approach:

(1) Only authorized persons should be allowed within 100 feet of the helicopter at all times, even when the engines have been shut-down.

(2) Do not approach the helicopter unless signaled to do so by a flight team member.

 

How to approach:

(1) When approaching or leaving from the helicopter, always move to or from the front.

(2) Never walk around the rotor area.

(3) If the landing site is uneven, always approach from downhill. Never approach from uphill.

 

What to do:

(1) Always be aware of the blade clearances.

(2) Never hold anything above your head or carry anything suspended by a pole or long object when approaching the helicopter.
