Compilato et al proposed the Simple-Complex-Destroying (S-C-D) classification system for a patient with a long-standing oral ulcer. The authors are from the University of Palermo, II University of Naples, New York University and University of Foggia.
Patient selection: ulceration not healing withing 2 weeks, classified as destroying or destructive
Causes of rapidly progressive ulcerations:
(1) deep mycosis
(2) noma
Other causes of destructive ulcerations:
(1) syphilis
(2) tuberculosis
(3) actinomycosis
(4) sarcoidosis
(5) deep mycosis
(6) Wegener’s granulomatosis
(7) other vasculitis
(8) squamous cell carcinoma
(9) other malignancy
