Description

Shen and Bhatt reported a simple model for predicting the expected visual acuity for a preschool child. A small child may have a normal visual acuity less than 20/20. The authors are from Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.

Patient selection: age 2 to 6

rule of 8 score =

= 8 - (age)

expected visual acuity for age =

= 20 / (10 * (rule of 8 score))

For example, a 2 year old has a "rule of 8 score" of 6, with the expected visual acuity 20/60.
