Banerjee referred to the rule of 6s when judging an arteriovenous fistula for functional maturation.


Patient selection: autologous arteriovenous fistula

 

Rules of 6's:

(1) assessment is done at 6 weeks after created

(2) the diameter of the body of the fistula should be >= 6 mm

(3) depth below skin no more than 6 mm (from 5-6 mm)

(4) blood flow rate >= 600 mL per minute on duplex ultrasound

(5) the length of the fistula should be 5-6 cm
