Description

Criteria for the cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) are given by Rome IV.


Features of the cyclic vomiting syndrome - all of the following:

(1) stereotypical episodes of vomiting

(1a) acute onset of intense emesis with multiple episodes per day

(1b) duration less than 1 week

(2) onset > 12 months

(3) >= 2 episodes in past 6 months

(4) episodes usually >= 1 week apart but may be daily

(5) absence of vomiting between episodes

 

Supportive findings:

(1) history of migraine headaches in self or family

(2) may be associated with menses in women (catamenial)

(3) may be triggered by sleep deprivation, stress or motion sickness

(4) may be triggered by certain foods or medications
