Description

Functional diarrhea can be diagnosed using the Rome IV criteria.


Diagnostic criteria for functional diarrhea - all of the following:

(1) loose or watery stools occurring in > 25% of stools

(2) abdominal pain or abdominal bloating absent or not predominant symptoms (minor)

(3) onset >= 6 months before diagnosis

(4) symptoms present for the last 3 months

(5) exclusion of other explanations for diarrhea including diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
