Description

Functional chest pain can be diagnosed by the Rome IV criteria.


Diagnostic criteria for functional chest pain:

(1) retrosternal chest pain or discomfort

(2) frequency >= 1 time per week

(3) symptom onset >= 6 months prior to diagnosis

(4) present for the past 3 months

(5) exclusion of:

(5a) cardiac cause

(5b) heartburn or dysphagia

(5c) gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

(5d) eosinophilic esophagitis

(5e) esophageal motor disorder

(5f) other causes of chest pain
