Abdominal migraine can be diagnosed with the Rome IV criteria.
Diagnostic criteria for abdominal migraine:
(1) >= 2 paroxysmal episodes of acute abdominal pain (periumbilical, midline, or diffuse) lasting >= 1 hour
(2) abdominal pain is the predominant symptom
(3) episodes are separated by weeks or months for >= 6 months
(4) abdominal pain is disabling and interferes with normal activities
(5) stereotypical pattern
(6) >= 2 of the following:
(6a) anorexia
(6b) nausea
(6c) vomiting
(6d) headache
(6e) photophobia
(6f) pallor
(7) no other explanation for the findings after an adequate evaluation
Additional findings may include:
(1) symptom relief with antimigraine medications
(2) migraine-type triggers (stess, fatigue, travel)
(3) migraine type headaches
(4) migraine-type prodrome (mood change, photophobia, vasomotor symptoms)
