Description

Kawaguchi et al developed a score for evaluating a patient receiving a Jarvik-7 artificial heart while awaiting cardiac transplantation. This can help identify patients who have a poor chance of survival. The authors are from Hopital de le Pitie in Paris and Matsue National College of Technology in Matsue, Japan.

Parameters:

(1) indication for the cardiac transplantation

(2) body surface area in square meters

(3) body height in cm

(4) body weight in kilograms

(5) serum total bilirubin in micromoles per liter (µmol/L)

(6) age in years

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 15

• A score < 4 indicated a low risk patient.

• A score >= 4 indicated a high risk patient.
