Description

Some drivers become enraged while driving. This can lead to behavior that is hazardous to the driver and to others on the highway.


 

Risk factors for road rage:

(1) provocation by poor driving

(2) traffic jam, congestion or other frustrating situation

(3) personality type (angry, aggressive, impulsive)

(4) drug or alcohol abuse

(5) medications

(6) stress

(7) anger provoking incidents prior to driving

 

The trigger may range from significant to none at all.

 

Features of road rage may include:

(1) tailgating

(2) chasing a motorist

(3) inappropriate braking

(4) alternating between going very fast and very slow

(5) flashing lights

(6) sounding horn

(7) rude gestures and/or yelling

(8) cutting someone off

(9) throwing something

(10) shooting a gun

(11) physical assault after getting out of the car

(12) driving in the median or the pull-off lane

(13) running into another car

(14) running a car or other vehicle off the road
