Rackoff et al developed a risk stratificaton for bacteremia in children with febrile neutropenia. The authors are from James Whitcomb Rley Hospital for Children and Indiana University.
Fever was defined by one or both of the following::
(1) a single temperature measurement >= 38.5°C
(2) a temperature >= 38°C on >= 3 occasions within 24 hours
Neutropenia was defined as an absolute neutrophil count < 500 per µL (including segmented and band forms).
Parameters at the time of admission:
(1) absolute monocyte count per µL
(2) temperature in °C (in the absence of drugs or other interventions that reduce the body temperature)

The high risk group also had a high risk for other serious complications.
